Primary Sources

Metelko, Karl, ed. “Titanic Quotes.” WebTitanic. N.p., 2001. Web. 28 Nov. 2009. <http://www.webtitanic.net/.html>. This website was one of my primary sources that i used for my citations. It was a primary source because i used quotes of Thomas Andrews, the man who was the head designer of the Titanic. This was a very beneficial website for me because i was able to get two of Andrews’ quotes out of the website.

Thomas Andrews Memorial Society. “Thomas Andrews.” Thomas Andrews Memorial Society. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Nov. 2009. <https://www.angelfire.com///>. This website was extremely helpful for me because it was my other primary source. The Thomas Andrews Memorial Society gave me two quotes that I used as note cards. It’s very interesting to learn that Thomas Andrews, the man who built and designed the Titanic, had a bad feeling about the ship from the start. In both of his quotes, he said that he thought that the Titanic would sink on its voyage, and it turns out he was right.

Secondary Sources

Attic Designs. “Construction of the Titanic.” Titanic Facts. N.p., 2005. Web. 28 Oct. 2009. <http://www.titanic-facts.com/construction.html>. This website was very useful for me because it had a lot of information on how the ship was built. Attic Designs wrote facts about the ship’s builders and how long it took for it to be built. I was able to get four notecards out of this source on the building of the ship. This was one of my most beneficial sources.

Burgan, Michael. “Building the Best Ever.” The Titanic. Minneaplois: Compass Point Books, 2004. 13. Google Books. Web. 4 Nov. 2009. <http://books.google.com/?id=b5qeoHrAzdcC&pg=PP1&dq=titanic&lr=#v=onepage&q=&f=false>. This section of the book, “The Titanic” gave me information about the safety features that were included in the building of the ship. The author, Michael Burgan, wrote about the ship’s watertight compartments that were supposed to prevent the ship from sinking. I was able to get some good information.

Encyclopedia Britannica. “Titanic.” Encyclopedia Britannica. Tahabi Books, 2003. Web. 2 Dec. 2009. <http://www.britannica.com/‌titanic/‌01_01.html>. This website had alot of information about the Titanic. The time of the ship sinking and also when it was found in the sea. They told me about the designer and builders of the great ship and also more information about the size of the ship. It also gave me information on how the Titanic changed the way ships travel and why the International Patrol was started.

Freiman, Fran Locher, and Neil Schlager. “R.M.S. Titanic Sinks.” Failed Technology. Vol. 1. United Kingdom: Gale Research International Limited, 1995. 3-11. Print. After the Titanic sank it started a patrol group to help patrol icebergs in the shipping lanes. This source gave me information about why it was formed and what it does. Plus it shows some of the innovations that the Titanic started because this came about because of the Titanics tragedy.

Garzke, William H. “Titanic.” World Book Advanced. N.p., 2009. Web. 28 Oct. 2009.                                       <http://www.worldbookonline.com//?id=ar559340&st=titanic>. This reference source was very useful to help me learn interesting facts about the Titanic. The article was written by William Garzke and he wrote many facts that were descriptive about the Titanic. There was a lot of information that came out of this World Book article.

Lord, Walter. “Facts about the Titanic.” A Night to Remember. 148. Henry Holt & Company, 2005. Web. 9 Nov. 2009. <http://books.google.com/‌books?id=jiWUlzNdwWIC&printsec=frontcover&dq=titanic#v=onepage&q=titanic&f=false>. This book was very beneficial to me. It gave me information on what some of the features the Titanic was built with and things that were factors on how the ship was considered to be unsinkable. Walter Lord wrote about the speed of the ship as well as the ships boilers and engines.

Lubell, Sam. “A Titanic Engineering Feat.” Architectural Record Mar. 2005: 26. Power Library. Web. 2 Nov. 2009. <http://search.ebscohost.com/.aspx?direct=true&db=ulh&AN=16461403&site=src-live&scope=site>. This magazine article was useful for me because it gave me enough information to write a note card about its lifeboats. It is very interesting that the Titanic only had 20 lifeboats instead of 32 just for the purpose to make the ship prettier. This online magazine gave me that information and no other source that I had did.

“Olympic and Titanic.” New York Times 23 Apr. 1908: n. pag. The New York Times. Web. 12 Nov. 2009. <http://query.nytimes.com/‌mem/‌archive-free/‌pdf?_r=1&res=9803EFDB1639E333A25750C2A9629C946997D6CF>. This source gave me my primary source for my project. It gave me information that was given to the public at the time the ship was being built. It told me estimated measurements and the type of engines that were out into the Titanic.

Sloan, Frank. “Vital Statistics.” TITANIC. Austin, Texas: Steck-Vaughn, 1998. 22-25. Print.

Stevenson, Jay. “Bells and Whistles.” The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Titanic. New York: Alpha Books, 1998. 82. NetLibrary. Web. 2 Nov. 2009. <http://www.netlibrary.com//>.

“Titanic.” Infoplease. Pearson Education, 2008. Web. 1 Dec. 2009. <http://www.infoplease.com/‌spot/‌titanic.html>. This cite gave me the most information out of any of my cites. The website told about all of the great things that the Titanic had on its ship to make it better then any  other boat. It also told about how the survivors where rescued and why many didn't because of the lack of lifeboats. It also said that the ship sank on April 14th.

“The Unforgettable True Story Of Titanic.” Geelong Advertiser 28 Aug. 2006: n. pag. Newspaper Source. Web. 2 Nov. 2009. <http://web.ebscohost.com/‌src/‌detail?vid=6&hid=103&sid=35d542cb-189d-4012-aa1a-d7d5383c0e52%40sessionmgr4&bdata=JnNpdGU9c3JjLWxpdmUmc2NvcGU9c2l0ZQ%3d%3d#db=nfh&AN=200608281024005778>. This was all about when and how the boat sank and how it sank very fast. It also said why it wasn’t supposed to ever sink and why it did anyway.

Turner, Timothy, PD. “Construction Begins.” RMS Titanic Ship of Dreams. N.p., 2006. Web. 13 Nov. 2009. <http://www.titanicandco.com/.html>.

Weber, Tom. “Titanic Story Still Fascinating After All These Years.” Post-Bulletin [Rochester] 16 Apr. 2009: n. pag. PowerLibrary. Web. 4 Dec. 2009. <http://web.ebscohost.com//‌detail?vid=12&hid=108&sid=c18ba4cc-5081-41f4-b260-24ebc13fd7f1%40sessionmgr13&bdata=JnNpdGU9c3JjLWxpdmUmc2NvcGU9c2l0ZQ%3d%3d#db=nfh&AN=2W6355953261>. This really told me about the true story of why the Titanic sank. It was because of the metals and currents and it explained it all in a scientific way letting me better understand why the Titanic sank.

Wheeler, Heather. “The Titanic Construction.” History on the Net. N.p., Nov. 2000. Web. 18 Nov. 2009. <http://historyonthenet.com/>. Heather Wheeler gave me information about the Titanic’s features that it was built with. This website talked about the boilers as well as the propellers on the Titanic, and more. The website showed that the Titanic was a part of innovation in history because the world never saw such advanced parts on a ship before.

White Star Line Ships. “Technical Facts About The Titanic.” Tht Titanic and Other White Star Line Ships. N.p., 2006. Web. 30 Nov. 2009. <http://www.titanic-whitestarships.com/_Tech_Facts.htm>.
